Old Cryptians mourns the loss of Doug Perks

Former Player, Chairman & President has died

It is with deepest regret that we inform you of the passing of a True Cryptian, Douglas Perks.

Doug has been associated with the Club for nearly 70 years, starting his playing career in 1957, Doug contribution as a player is unparalleled, with 626 appearances and scoring 154 tries and 781 points, playing for 30 years before hanging up his boots in 1987. He captained both the first and second team sides, Firsts for three seasons, 1959-1960, 1960-61 and 1967-68, before being skipper to second for the 1968-69 and 1976-77 seasons.

Along with the a long spanning playing career for Old Cryptians, Doug also played for Hampshire and had 41 appearances for Gloucester.

Doug served the club as Chairman from 1984-89, before being Club President from 1989-2004.

Doug was so much fun to be around, a fantastic club servant, setting the standards for our beloved club and was a mentor for so many.

We say goodbye to a much loved friend and brother to many, and with a heavy heart say God Bless His Soul.
