Our thoughts are with his family

Old Cryptians RFC are deeply sadden to report the sad passing of former player Ryan Dunne.

Ryan joined the club after playing for the junior section at Old Richians RFC in 2014 and played over 50 games for the club over 3 seasons. During this period, he was an ever present in the First Team before a nasty knee injury ended his career prematurely.

Former Old Cryptians club coach James King (who also taught Ryan at Crypt School) stated that “I am really devastated to hear of this incredibly sad news about Ryan. During my time at OCs Ryan was an ever present in the side, and was pivotal to our success with his attacking flair from the back row and no-nonsense approach to defence. I have fond memories of watching Ryan in action, and he will be sorely missed by all those that played alongside him”

He was also a key part of both the playing and social success at the club during this time and is fondly remembered by players such as former club Captain Chad Crosby and player James Weaver, who not only played with him at Old Cryptians but were also good friends during their School years.

Another former player and teacher Ashley Bawden spoke about Ryan – “He was the model student during his time at school and always applied himself brilliantly in the classroom and even more so with his sport. An outstanding swimmer come rugby player and always gave 100% for the team and his mates.

Club Chairman Martyn Langbridge stated “ We are all very saddened with this news but it is with extra significance with someone so young, everyone at the club sends our condolences and sympathies to Ryan's family and friends at this time ”

Ryan will be remembered before the game this Saturday with a minute’s silence before kick-off.

God Bless His Soul
