So, I hope you’ve all recovered from the celebrations after Crypts almost unbelievable win last week down in Exeter. Not that I need to remind you of the score, or what happened but it leads us on to another awayday, this time in Westbury in Wiltshire on 14th March in what in effect is, the National Cup Quarter Final.
But last weeks trip to Exeter wasn’t without incident as the travelers on the main supporter’s coach nearly didn’t get there as after a quick stop at Taunton Deane, the coach itself just refused to move once we’d all got back on. We thought we were doomed and had little chance of getting to see the game but as luck would have it, a quick phone call to another supporter who was driving down in his own car resulted in him being able to stop and help.
Now some of you may not know Mr. Tom Jackson personally. He works as a mechanic for stagecoach and you can usually see him sat at the bar on a Saturday night. Some say he’s a nice bloke, some don’t... But last Saturday he was a hero to the 50 or so stuck on the coach after he got us moving again after quickly identifying and sorting the problem. It only took five minutes and we all got to the ground in good time to enjoy the day.
Anyway, more information on the forthcoming Westbury match and arrangements for travel next time, as this week we revert to the to the bread and butter of league rugby. This week with another trip down to Bristol and St Brendans RFC. Now whilst we won the home fixture back in November 24-11, it wasn’t plain sailing and after our recent defeat against their near neighbours they may well be confident of another upset.
However, the coaching staff will not want a repeat of an outstanding performance followed by a poor one as happened at Old Es and as such introduced a new training routine this week called Settabello. I’ve no idea what it entailed but I hear it was well attended and especially enjoyed by the forwards. As always, the coaching set up continue to ensure training sessions are fresh and innovative.
The seconds and thirds are also in action this week. The 2s have to take the long way around to Hartbury due to the floods and take on the might of Old Cents but have a strong squad and will surely do well on the 4G pitch there. Meantime, Billy’s Mighty Thirds have a shorter trip and travel across the car park to face Widden 2s.
So, another great weekend in store and lots to play for and as always, I ask that you please show your support.
